Valdai Experts: The Statement That Trump May Postpone His Visit to China Is Just a Clarification of the Negotiation Position

The White House Press Corps quoted an anonymous official, reporting that U.S. President Trump will visit China from March 31 to April 2. However, U.S. President Trump warned that if China does not provide assistance in escorting ships in the Strait of Hormuz, he will postpone his visit to Beijing. On March 16, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lin Jian stated at a regular press conference that China and the United States have been maintaining communication regarding President Trump's visit to China.

Andrei Bestritzky, Chairman of the Board of the Valdai International Debate Club Foundation for Development and Support, told Sputnik News that Trump is a very unique negotiator.

This expert pointed out: "He speaks a lot, but you need to carefully consider his words, understanding that his words are like a sword dance, in order to influence the interlocutor in some way, and (note: to pave the way for negotiations)."

He believes that Trump's statements may be out of line, but there is a huge distance between this American leader's declarations and a decisive step.

Bestritzky added that Trump always meticulously prepares his actions, at least from the perspective of information impact, so his remarks about possibly postponing the visit to China should be regarded as "a kind of clarification of the negotiation position, nothing more." He emphasized that Trump tries to set the tone of the negotiations, without over-interpreting his words.
