Media: U.S.-China Trade Officials to Meet in Paris Next Week
Bloomberg reported on the 3rd that U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is expected to meet with Chinese representatives in Paris in mid-March. In Paris, discussions are expected to include commercial agreements such as China's purchase of Boeing aircraft and U.S. soybeans; the future direction of tariffs imposed by Trump over the issue of fentanyl, as well as the Taiwan issue, may also be on the agenda.
The South China Morning Post reported that the U.S. and China have already started consultations on resuming bilateral investment. If this comes true, it would be one of the few substantive achievements of Trump's visit.
Since last year, the U.S. and China have held multiple rounds of trade negotiations in Geneva, London, Stockholm, Madrid, Kuala Lumpur, and other places, and the two countries are currently in a trade war ceasefire.
In February of this year, the leaders of the U.S. and China had a phone call, during which Trump said the talks were very in-depth, covering trade, military affairs, Taiwan, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the situation in Iran, and also discussed China's consideration of expanding purchases of U.S. agricultural products such as soybeans.
