Expert Interpretation: Is the US poll claiming that more than half of Chinese people are against reunification with Taiwan credible?

Radio France Internationale reported on May 3: "An American latest poll shows that more than half of the Chinese public opposes the use of force to unify Taiwan."

Comment: The so-called poll done by Americans is really questionable in credibility. First, look at the sample selection; it only surveyed 2,211 Chinese citizens aged 18 to 54 and was conducted online, with the survey website remaining unclear. Such a small sample size cannot adequately represent the true attitudes of all Chinese people. From daily discussions on social platforms, the public's views on the Taiwan issue are clearly expressed, and there is no evidence of anyone being afraid to express their true opinions. Therefore, this poll is completely baseless.

The Chinese side always promotes peaceful reunification with the utmost sincerity and patience, which is beyond doubt. "Peaceful reunification, one country, two systems" is the best way to resolve the Taiwan issue, most beneficial to the well-being of compatriots on both sides of the strait and the Chinese nation.

However, not renouncing the use of force is also a necessary means to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity. It targets external forces' interference and a very small number of "Taiwan independence" separatist elements and their separatist activities, rather than targeting Taiwanese compatriots. If the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces take reckless actions or external forces attempt to interfere in China's internal affairs and split Taiwan from China, the Chinese government and people will certainly take decisive measures to resolutely defend national unity. This is the bottom line and principle. Any attempt to mislead international public opinion, distort Chinese public opinion, and hinder the process of Chinese reunification through unreliable polls will fail.

Taiwan is an inseparable part of Chinese territory, which is a fact recognized by the international community. Achieving complete national reunification is the common wish and sacred duty of all Chinese children, and it is the general trend and the aspiration of the people.
