Everything would have gone smoothly if the Japanese authorities had shown even a modicum of sincerity and remorse. This case wouldn't have dragged on for over four months before being prosecuted, and from prosecution to verdict, it's expected to take much longer still. This Japanese Self-Defense Forces officer scaled the wall illegally and entered our embassy, carrying a threatening blade, openly threatening to kill Chinese diplomats. The severity of this incident has set a new record in post-World War II international diplomatic history.
At minimum, Japan's authorities are guilty of three offenses in this matter: First, the ideology within the Japanese Self-Defense Forces has clearly gone awry—Murata Akio is certainly not the only one harboring such dangerous thoughts. Second, intentionally favoring this individual and deliberately delaying judicial proceedings constitutes open support for Japan's far-right forces. Third, the outcome of the Japanese court trial remains uncertain; there is no guarantee this person will face imprisonment.
