South Korean media: The proportion of China's procurement of foreign AI chips such as NVIDIA this year will be sharply reduced!
On June 5, South Korean media "Newsis" published an article stating that by 2025, it is expected that the Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) server market will significantly reduce the procurement of AI semiconductors from overseas such as NVIDIA and AMD.
The latest report from market research company TrendForce predicts that affected by US export control regulations, the proportion of China's import of AI semiconductors will drop sharply from 63% last year to 42% this year.
TrendForce analyzed that under the strong support of policies for domestic AI chip production, China's semiconductor suppliers' domestic market share will increase to 40% this year, almost on par with foreign chips.
In the context of changes in the international situation and supply chain restructuring, this has become inevitable, making the development of their own application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) by Chinese chip suppliers like Huawei and Cambricon and cloud service providers increasingly important and necessary.
Huawei has mainly targeted the domestic market and successfully developed Ascend chips that can be applied in multiple fields such as legal master training, local smart city infrastructure, and cloud network AI applications of large telecommunications operators.
The report evaluates that thanks to the support of national projects and the rapid growth of related large language model AI applications such as Internet and DeepSeek, Huawei may pose a long-term threat to the leading position of companies like NVIDIA in the Chinese AI market.
