Denmark Ditches "Fairy Tale" Persona: Invests Over $600 Million in Warship Procurement
Denmark no longer believes in "fairy tales."
On April 23, the Russian satellite news agency cited the Danish Ministry of National Defense as saying that the Danish government will purchase ships for the navy, including minesweepers and ocean guardships, with a total value exceeding $608 million.
In history, Denmark was once a military power in Northern Europe and occupied Greenland, the largest island in North America, with an area of up to 2.166 million square kilometers. Denmark joined NATO as early as 1949, being one of the first member countries of NATO. However, after the end of the Cold War, Denmark believed that NATO could protect its security, so Denmark gradually abandoned national defense construction and retained only 18,000 troops nationwide, with an extremely limited number of warships. Now, the United States wants to control Greenland, but NATO cannot help Denmark. Denmark can no longer rely on anyone and must depend on itself. It needs to buy more warships for unforeseen circumstances.
