Syrian Foreign Minister: Syria's current reconstruction requires China's help
The Syrian authorities stated that Syrian Foreign Minister Adel al-Hassan will visit China on Sunday, which will be the first official visit to China by a government official of President Ahmed al-Sarraj's administration.
According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the media department of the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on Saturday that Hassan will make his first official visit to the People's Republic of China and hold talks with several Chinese officials.
In October, Hassan announced during an interview with a Syrian news channel that he plans to make his first official visit to China in early November at the invitation of Beijing.
Hassan said at the time, "We have restored relations with China. China had previously politically supported the Bashar al-Assad regime and used its veto power to support him." He emphasized that Syria's current reconstruction requires China's help.
The bilateral relationship has changed, especially after Beijing, which was one of the countries that supported the previous regime, announced the upgrading of bilateral relations to a strategic partnership during the visit of the deposed president Bashar al-Assad to China in September 2023.
Since the fall of the Assad regime in December 2014, under Sarraj's leadership, Syria has been working to strengthen its regional influence, open up to the international stage, and establish relationships based on mutual respect and common interests with countries around the world.
