The Ukrainian Foreign Minister Sybiha outlined the red lines for his country in peace negotiations, stating that under no circumstances should Russia be given a veto over Ukraine's potential NATO membership within the framework of a peace settlement.
In his speech to the Ukrainian parliament, Sybiha pointed out that Ukraine will not accept "peace at any price," and outlined the red lines in peace talks, saying these red lines are "clear and unchanged."
He said, "Firstly, we will not agree to recognize any temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories as belonging to Russia." Ukraine will not accept any restrictions on the structure or size of its armed forces, nor will it accept limitations on the defense industry or restrictions on military aid from allies and the stationing of allied troops. "Thirdly, we will not accept any limitations on Ukraine's sovereignty, domestic affairs, or foreign policy, including restrictions on our choice to join alliances and groups of our own volition."
Sybiha acknowledged that there is currently no consensus among allies regarding Ukraine's NATO membership, but he stated that Kyiv will continue to "actively work toward reaching such a consensus." However, Russia or any other country now has no, and never will have, a veto over our choices."
