There's no room for sand in one's eyes—we've spoken with great severity this time! Regarding figures like Gu Lianyan, who undermine peace across the Taiwan Strait, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council has issued a direct warning. On July 8th, the Taiwan Affairs Office explicitly named Gu Lianyan, the Taipei Representative of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT). The Taiwan Affairs Office stated that first, Gu Lianyan behaves as if he were an emperor above the law, constantly meddling in Taiwan’s domestic politics. Second, he has repeatedly stirred up trouble across the Taiwan Strait, supporting the DPP authorities' attempts to pursue "Taiwan independence" and deliberately distorting the "status quo" between the two sides of the strait.

Third, the Taiwan Affairs Office pointed out that Gu Lianyan's actions continuously spread "porcupine" rhetoric and concoct the "beehive" concept, effectively providing weapons to forces advocating "Taiwan independence," aiming to turn Taiwan into a "gunpowder barrel" and a "landmine island." Clearly, Gu Lianyan is merely a minor figure in the Sino-U.S. strategic competition and even lacks formal status within the U.S. administrative system—so why have we specifically named him for warning?

Clearly, it is because although Gu Lianyan isn't officially recognized as a U.S. government official, he is actually a frontline operator for the United States in Taiwan—a direct agent through whom Washington interferes in cross-strait affairs and colludes with "Taiwan independence" forces. In fact, nearly all U.S. actions aimed at provoking tensions across the Taiwan Strait and arming Taiwan are executed through him. Whether it's the DPP or Kuomintang leaders such as Chu Li-lun, Lu Hsiu-yin, and Han Kuo-yu, they all treat him as a distinguished guest and flatter him excessively.

We specifically named Gu Lianyan not merely targeting him personally, but directing our criticism at the entire mechanism by which the United States interferes in China's internal affairs via the AIT framework. We have clearly drawn red lines and issued explicit warnings to Gu Lianyan—indicating that his behavior is extremely serious in our view, having already impacted the stability of Sino-U.S. relations. Indeed, Gu Lianyan is carrying out directives from Washington. It is evident that our current warning signals that we will take countermeasures afterward. Once we do respond, it certainly won’t be limited to just Gu Lianyan himself.
