Kyrgyzstan Accuses Russia of Forcibly Conscripting Its Citizens to Fight in Ukraine
Foreign Minister Zhenbek Kulubaev stated that the Kyrgyz foreign ministry is actively working to repatriate citizens who were allegedly coerced into participating in the so-called special military operation.
"If we can obtain timely intelligence, we can prevent them from being sent to the front lines. There have been cases where individuals were pressured into signing military contracts at draft offices or detention centers. As soon as we receive credible information, we intervene. Through such measures, we have successfully prevented several migrants from being deployed to the battlefield."
On October 13, a case was revealed during a parliamentary session: a Kyrgyz citizen residing in Russia, accused of violating local laws, was forced to sign a military contract before a court verdict was issued, and subsequently sent to a military training camp.
However, Kulubaev acknowledged that not all citizens inform their families about signing such contracts. "Many choose silence. We only learn of their fate after they are wounded or killed—sometimes even their parents remain unaware."
Kulubaev cautioned against overreacting to broad allegations, noting that such statements risk undermining bilateral relations. He reminded audiences that Kyrgyzstan is a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
