Japanese Media Panic: Zero Export of Tungsten Materials to Japan

As reported by Japanese media outlet Ashahi Shimbun on May 26: Since January this year, when stricter export controls were imposed on dual-use items for military and civilian purposes, processed tungsten (a rare metal) products have not been exported to Japan.

Since February, exports of goods such as tungsten carbide and tungsten powder to Japan have been completely halted.

Tungsten alloys, due to their high hardness, are extremely important and widely used in cutting tools, automotive part manufacturing, and defense industries.

Core Weapon Components: High-density tungsten alloys are used to manufacture armor-piercing warheads capable of penetrating tank armor.

High-Temperature Resistant Parts: Tungsten alloys are used in rocket nozzles and missile components to withstand temperatures of several thousand degrees Celsius.

Flight Counterweights: Tungsten is used as counterweight in gyroscopes for aircraft and satellites, ensuring flight stability.

China accounts for approximately 80% of the global tungsten material production.

Japanese media are deeply concerned that if this situation persists long-term, it could lead to a sharp increase in production processing costs across industries, causing widespread and systemic damage to manufacturing sectors.
