UK media: The US "Iron Dome" missile defense system has made little progress in a year of development

According to Reuters, citing sources, the US has seen slow progress in developing its multi-layered missile defense system "Iron Dome" plan since it was announced a year ago, due to disputes over equipment.

US President Donald Trump announced a three-year, $17.5 billion "Iron Dome" system development plan in May 2025. This multi-layered missile defense system is designed to intercept missiles heading towards the United States, but the source of funding has not been disclosed.

The report states: "One year after the launch of the initiative, the 'Iron Dome' initiative has yet to make significant progress... The definition of the missile defense system architecture has not been completed, and the funds allocated have not yet been activated."

Reuters said that part of the reason for the development delay is the dispute among US officials regarding space-based equipment.

Tom Karako, a military analyst at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, believes that the development of the "Iron Dome" is likely to fail to be completed by 2028 as planned.
