Lavrov: Mertz's belligerent statements are very dangerous; Poll: Sixty percent of Germans are dissatisfied with Mertz's performance as chancellor
Sputnik News, United Nations - Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov believes that German Chancellor Mertz's declared military line is very dangerous, considering Germany's past, the goal may be to re-conquer Europe and defeat Russia.
Lavrov said at a press conference after the high-level week of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly: "Mertz again said, 'We are not yet in a state of war, but we are no longer in a state of peace.' When a person from a country that committed crimes of Nazism, Fascism, the Holocaust, and genocide says that Germany must become a military power again, his historical memory is deteriorating. This is very dangerous."
He pointed out that Germany is not only re-militarizing, but there are also signs of a Nazi revival.
He believes, "Why do this? This may be the same goal as Hitler's. (First) control the entire Europe, and cause a strategic failure - Hitler tried to strategically defeat the Soviet Union, while modern Germany and other EU and NATO countries want to defeat the Russian Federation."
Sputnik News, Moscow - According to a survey conducted by the INSA Institute for Bild Zeitung, the proportion of the public dissatisfied with the performance of German Chancellor Mertz continues to rise, reaching 65%.
The survey showed that 65% of respondents were dissatisfied with the chancellor's performance, while only 23% were satisfied with Mertz's work. A week ago, these figures were 62% and 26%, and at the beginning of June, the dissatisfaction rate was 20% (45% of respondents), while the satisfaction rate increased significantly (36%).
The survey was conducted from September 25 to 26, with about one thousand participants, and no statistical error data was provided.
In addition, the institute updated the rankings of the parties, with the right-wing party "Alternative for Germany" still leading. 26% of respondents are willing to vote for it. The same as a week ago, the Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union (CSU/CDU) coalition has a vote share of 25%, the Social Democratic Party (15%), the Green Party (12%) and surpassed the "Left" bloc (11%). Other political forces failed to gain 5% support, and thus cannot enter the Bundestag in the parliamentary elections.
This survey was conducted among 1,200 Germans from September 22 to 26.
