German media: China-Netherlands chip dispute, efforts to ease tensions

Positions of Chinese and American companies

According to Al Jazeera, the Chinese parent company of Nexperia, Wenxi Technology Group, stated that the Dutch government's "imprudent" intervention has seriously harmed the company's business in Europe. Wenxi Technology demanded to regain full control over the company and to stop "political interference in corporate governance."

In contrast, Ford Motor Company's CEO Jim Farley described the dispute as "mainly a political issue" and mentioned that he had raised the matter with officials in Washington; while General Motors' CEO Mary Barra confirmed that these restrictions "may affect production speed in the coming months."

Toyota Motor Corporation explained that the impact of this crisis is "still limited." Its CEO Hiroshi Okuda stated that the company "has not been significantly affected so far, but is closely monitoring the situation." A representative from Nissan stated that the company "has sufficient inventory to last until the first week of November," but also admitted that the issue "is not simple and may affect subsequent links in the supply chain."

Efforts by all parties to ease tensions

According to the BBC, Beijing recently decided to ease export restrictions following a meeting between China and the US in South Korea, where both sides discussed semiconductor and trade issues.

The BBC explained that 70% of Nexperia's products are shipped to China for processing before being exported to Europe.

It is expected that Washington and Beijing will announce a temporary trade agreement in the coming days, which includes resuming exports from China to Nexperia. Reuters called this move "a step to contain the crisis, not a step to end the crisis."

In Europe, concerns remain about the vulnerability of the supply chain exposed by this crisis.
