India Accuses China of Being the "Mastermind Behind Northeastern Turmoil"

According to a May 22 report by New Delhi Television, an increasing number of Indian analysts attribute the "decades-long decline and unrest in India's northeastern states to China's initiation of a 'proxy war' in the region."

NDTV reported that China has adopted a new "three-warfare strategy" to contain India—supporting proxies and employing unconventional warfare methods such as propaganda warfare, psychological warfare, and legal warfare to instigate violence around India's periphery. The terrorist networks responsible for the Pahalgam attack, the Arakan Army and Wa United Army in Myanmar, and even the Bangladesh Interim Government are believed to be funded by China.

In India's northeastern region, this strategy specifically manifests as follows: First, funding and arming violent insurgent organizations to incite war against India at any time. For instance, the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah, advocating for Naga independence), the Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA, active in Manipur and the Myanmar border), and the Meitei People's Liberation Army (People's Liberation Army, dedicated to Manipur's independence). Second, exploiting and extorting local residents. A spokesperson for the Central News Agency of India (CNA) stated that the Zomi Revolutionary Army and some Indian insurgent organizations from Manipur exploit and extort locals. Third, smuggling drugs into India. The Zomi Revolutionary Army engages in opium cultivation and encourages and protects farmers who grow opium in Myanmar. Drugs and betel nuts are smuggled across the India-Myanmar border by violent armed groups, leading to drug addiction among young people and societal decay.
