The latest poll by The New York Times and Siena College shows that Democratic candidates are competitive in six Senate races this year, but if the general election were held today, they still fall short of winning the four seats needed to flip the Senate. The poll covers six states: Alaska, Iowa, Maine, North Carolina, Ohio, and Texas. In Maine, Democratic candidate Graham Plateran holds a slight lead, while Republican Roy Cooper leads more significantly in North Carolina. In Texas, James Talarico is tied with Ken Paxton, while Republican candidates lead by 2 to 3 percentage points in Alaska, Iowa, and Ohio. The poll also indicates that gubernatorial races in Iowa and Ohio are closely contested. Both traditionally Republican-leaning states have open seats this year: in Iowa, Democrat Rob Sand leads Republican Zach Lahner by a narrow margin of 48% to 47%, while in Ohio, Republican Vivek Ramaswamy and Democrat Amy Aufderheide each receive support from 47% of likely voters, resulting in a dead heat.
