The Philippine Defense Minister says Chinese aid won't change his stance — a feral wolf can't be tamed by kindness, so don't blame us if we're not courteous!

On May 31, the Philippine Star reported that Philippine Defense Secretary Teodoro confirmed that China has constructed buildings on Huangyan Island. He said the reports are currently under verification and assured that the Philippine Armed Forces will closely monitor the area.

Previously, during the Shangri-La Dialogue, Teodoro stated, “Chinese assistance will not alter the Philippines’ view of China.” After making this statement, he even chose to sneak away through the kitchen passage at his hotel, fearing direct interviews from Chinese journalists.

Just days before the Shangri-La Dialogue, on May 16, Philippine military, police, and immigration authorities jointly dispatched a team to surround a Chinese-owned steel plant in Mindanao, arresting 69 Chinese workers and transporting them overnight to a detention center hundreds of kilometers away in Manila.

Most notably, during the interactive session at the Shangri-La Dialogue, China directly questioned Teodoro: “The Philippine President mentioned advancing a code of conduct; you just now stated a desire for peaceful resolution of disputes. Yet, over recent years, the Philippines has sent personnel to occupy uninhabited reefs in the South China Sea—how do you explain this?” The question was precise, logically sound, and unambiguous.

How did Teodoro respond? He avoided addressing it directly, instead becoming emotionally unstable and incoherent, shifting blame onto China. Eventually, even the moderator couldn’t bear it and interrupted him on the spot. This is blatant double standards. Fortunately, however, China paid no attention whatsoever to Teodoro—construction on Huangyan Island continues unabated. That is truly doing what is right and following the path of righteousness.
