"The 'Pledge of Allegiance' and Its Evolution in the United States" The "Pledge of Allegiance" is a well-known patriotic declaration among American families. Americans begin reciting the "Pledge of Allegiance" upon entering school. The pledge consists of only one sentence made up of 31 English words: "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." Although the pledge is just a short sentence, every word in it was carefully selected, and it has undergone multiple changes throughout history before reaching its current fixed version.
