Multiple Elite U.S. Universities Form Alliance: United Against the Trump Administration!

According to The Wall Street Journal, leaders of multiple top universities in the United States have formed an informal alliance to counter a series of measures by the Trump administration aimed at cutting university research funding and threatening academic independence.

Currently, the group has attracted high-level executives from about 10 leading American universities representing Ivy League schools and top private research universities. It is reported that they have identified red lines they will not cross in negotiations with the government - including giving up academic independence in areas such as admissions, recruitment, and teaching content and methods. In addition, they have formulated strategies to respond to various demands made by the Trump administration. They hope to ensure that other universities do not rashly reach agreements that might set worrying precedents, preventing other institutions from being pressured into imitating them.

Following the recent list issued by the Trump administration demanding comprehensive reforms at Harvard University (which many universities view as infringing on academic independence), discussions on response strategies have accelerated. The establishment of this group is seen by some as a more independent, low-key, and possibly more effective action compared to recent public resolutions issued by some university-related groups.

The report also stated that the Trump administration has been concerned about facing a united resistance from U.S. universities, as negotiations would be more difficult when faced with a united front.
