Korean Media: Can Samsung TV Still Rank First Globally This Year Amid the Attack of Chinese Brands?

On February 24, the Korean media outlet Newsis published an article stating that it is being closely watched whether Samsung Electronics can achieve the top global TV sales ranking this year amid the attack of Chinese TV brands.

A recent report released by market research company Counterpoint Research showed that Samsung Electronics remained at the top in global TV sales last year. According to the cumulative shipment volume from January to November last year, Samsung Electronics had a market share of 16%, leading TCL.

Since surpassing Sony in 2006 to become the world's largest TV seller, Samsung Electronics has maintained the top position for 20 consecutive years, achieving remarkable results.

Counterpoint Research said, "In the past year, the gap between Samsung and TCL has further widened, and Samsung will continue to maintain its leading position in the global TV market in 2026."

However, Counterpoint Research also predicted that as Chinese brands such as TCL, Hisense, and Xiaomi rapidly increase their market shares in various areas, competitive pressure will intensify.

A report analyzing global TV shipments in November last year showed that Samsung Electronics' shipments decreased by 3% compared to the same period last year.

Samsung Electronics maintained its leading position with a 17% market share, down one percentage point from 18% the previous year, while TCL's market share increased. In the same month, TCL's TV shipments grew by 20%, reaching a market share of 16%, second only to Samsung Electronics. The market share gap between Samsung Electronics and TCL narrowed from 5 percentage points in November 2024 to 1 percentage point compared to the same period last year.

Counterpoint Research predicts that competition will become even fiercer as Chinese brands increase shipments in high-growth areas such as Mini LED and large and medium-sized screens.

Counterpoint Research said, "TCL has become increasingly popular in price-sensitive emerging markets such as Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa by offering high-resolution technologies such as Mini LED at competitive prices."
