Foreign media: The Paraguayan government is pushing an assembly law that would allow companies to assemble electronic and digital products locally using imported parts (many of which come from China) and label them as "Made in Paraguay".

The Minister of Economy and the Minister of Industry and Trade told the Senate that this measure would allow companies currently importing finished products to instead import parts for local assembly, ranging from televisions, refrigerators to microwave ovens, air conditioners, referencing the existing motorcycle industry policy (which has resulted in 90% of motorcycles being assembled locally), to reduce costs, increase employment, and expand production diversity.

Some officials said that the recent high tariffs imposed by the U.S. on Chinese products (initially 145%, later reduced to 30%) and 50% tariffs on exports to Brazil have provided a rare opportunity for Paraguay to attract assembly businesses.
