German Chancellor Merkel: Germany Has No Intention of Restricting U.S. Use of Military Bases on German Soil
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that the German government has no intention of restricting the United States' use of military bases located within Germany.
During a press conference following his statement on international affairs in Berlin, Merz responded to related questions by saying: "I can answer clearly—no."
He also noted that during his phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday, the issue of restricting U.S. military access to its infrastructure in Germany was not discussed.
Merz said: "We did not discuss the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Germany, nor did we discuss limiting the U.S. armed forces' use of their military facilities in Germany."
He further added that the United States had previously used its bases in Germany, pursuant to existing agreements, to participate in military operations against Iran.
