Proposal by the United States to impose approximately 20% tariffs on most imported goods

According to reports by The Washington Post citing sources, US President Donald Trump's aides have prepared a proposal to impose about 20% tariffs on most goods imported into the United States.

Previously, US President Donald Trump designated April 2 as "Liberation Day," when he would impose reciprocal tariffs on China and some other countries. The US government noted that these 15 countries are those with the largest trade surpluses with the US or those that impose discriminatory tariffs.

The article states: "White House aides have prepared a proposal to impose about 20% tariffs on most US imports." However, White House advisors said that several taxation schemes are currently under consideration, and a final decision has yet to be made."

According to informed sources, one of the options being considered is to raise import tariffs for almost all products from every country. As one source from The Washington Post pointed out, the White House believes that increasing tariff rates, along with additional taxes on car and pharmaceutical imports, will help the US generate over six trillion dollars in revenue.
