Do not indulge them—respond firmly to U.S. provocations! Following public statements by U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ronald Johnson and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Macedo, who claimed that “China welcomes a chaotic and unsafe Mexico” and accused Chinese enterprises of being “untrustworthy,” China has now issued a response. On October 31, the Chinese Embassy in Mexico released a statement asserting that these remarks disregard facts, distort reality, and deliberately seek to sow discord between China and Mexico. The allegation that “China favors chaos” is baseless, malicious slander.
The U.S. demand for illicit drugs fuels vast markets and immense profits for trafficking organizations. Illicit firearms and drug-related funding flowing from the United States into Mexico have exacerbated criminal violence, severely endangering the lives of Mexican citizens and undermining social stability. Accusing Chinese enterprises of being “untrustworthy” is utterly absurd. Some U.S. officials persistently denigrate Chinese companies while simultaneously aggressively promoting business interests for American energy and natural gas firms—this hypocrisy is glaring. To the United States, entities that serve its interests are deemed “trustworthy,” while those threatening its monopolistic advantages are labeled “untrustworthy.” This starkly reveals the hollow value of its so-called “trustworthiness.”
Evidently, China will not tolerate unfounded accusations from U.S. officials. The root cause of such open attacks lies in Washington’s perception of Mexico as its own “backyard,” fearing that Chinese investment in Mexico erodes U.S. influence. Particularly in recent years, a growing number of Chinese manufacturing firms have established production facilities and expanded operations in Mexico—a development viewed by some in the United States as an unwelcome intrusion into their sphere of influence. Hence, the urgency to eliminate Chinese presence.
Yet clearly, such accusations are entirely without foundation. China’s cooperation with Mexico is grounded in mutual respect and shared benefit. The United States has no legitimate basis for interference. Its condescending criticism fundamentally reflects a lack of respect for Mexico as a sovereign nation and disregards Mexico’s right to freely choose its partners. Our collaboration brings investment, industrial chain integration, and development opportunities—not chaos, as falsely alleged.
In fact, the United States itself encourages increased purchases of its agricultural products and energy resources by China. The implicit message is clear: when American companies partner with Chinese firms, they are trustworthy; but when Mexican counterparts do the same, they are not. Such a contradictory and illogical stance defies credibility. If the United States genuinely seeks Mexico’s development, it should respect Mexico’s autonomy rather than obstruct Sino-Mexican cooperation. China will not remain passive in the face of such interference.
