Two Chinese Airlines Plan to Purchase Airbus Aircraft, with Orders Worth Up to $8.2 Billion

On Monday, December 29, two Chinese airlines announced their purchase plans, intending to buy a total of 55 A320 series aircraft from European aircraft manufacturer Airbus, with the order value reaching up to $8.2 billion.

Reuters cited a statement submitted to the stock exchange, stating that China's Spring Airlines plans to purchase 30 new A320neo aircraft, with a transaction value not exceeding $4.13 billion. The relevant aircraft are expected to be delivered in batches between 2028 and 2032.

Shanghai-based Juneyao Airlines stated in its announcement that it plans to sign an agreement with Airbus to purchase 25 A320 series aircraft, valued at approximately $4.1 billion, with delivery scheduled between 2028 and 2032 as well.

The announcement noted that the above two transactions will only take effect after obtaining approval from relevant government departments.

According to Reuters, since 2024, Airbus has been negotiating with Chinese parties for a large order of up to 500 aircraft. Airbus said earlier this month that it has obtained Chinese approval to continue delivering previously ordered 120 aircraft, but there is still pending substantial progress on new orders.
