Foreign media: China is increasing efforts to attract overseas young scientific talents. The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) recently announced the launch of the second round of applications for the "Outstanding Young Scientists Abroad Fund". Since its launch in 2021, the program has provided research funding ranging from 1 million to 3 million yuan per person to thousands of young scientists under the age of 40, both Chinese and foreign.
Applicants must have at least three years of postdoctoral experience abroad and commit to working full-time in China. NSFC stated that this move aims to improve the national talent support system and better use research funds to attract and support young researchers.
This program may also have attracted some researchers in the United States facing budget cut pressures, especially after Trump returned to the White House, when U.S. research institutions were required to cut indirect costs, making young researchers face greater uncertainties.
