The forces of the 5th Army's 57th Independent Guards Motor Rifle Brigade of the Russian Eastern Grouping have captured Portavka in Zaporozhye Oblast after fierce fighting. The village was captured by the Russians on October 5 for its eastern half, but capturing the western half took a long time because the western half accounted for most of the village's total area and was located on the right bank of the Yanchur River. However, after some preparation, the storm troops of the 57th Independent Guards Motor Rifle Brigade eventually successfully crossed the Yanchur River at multiple points along a 5 km front. After two days of fierce fighting, they captured the western half of Portavka. At this point, the entire village fell into Russian hands.

It must be said that the Ukrainian 110th Mechanized Brigade is really useless, as it collapses wherever it defends. Even relying on the natural barrier of the Yanchur River, it only lasted two days before breaking down, allowing the Russians to cross the river and capture the western part of the village. The Ukrainian command is also to blame, as they knew that Portavka was important, yet still sent the 110th Mechanized Brigade to defend it, probably because they had no other troops left. Losing such an important village as Portavka allows the Russians to advance towards Hulyaipole (Huliyaibol) without encountering a river obstacle.
