Canada's National Dental Care Program for All Opens Applications for 18-64-Year-Olds Next Month!

Starting in May, the Canada Dental Care Plan (CDCP) will expand to allow eligible Canadian residents aged 18 to 64 to apply.

The program was launched in 2023 with the aim of helping individuals with an annual income below 90,000 CAD reduce their dental treatment costs.

Currently, eligible seniors aged 65 and above, children under 18, and adults holding a valid Federal Disability Tax Credit (DTC) certification in 2023 can apply for the program, with coverage ending on June 30.

Canadian citizens already covered by CDCP must complete their renewal application for the 2025-2026 period before June 1 to avoid interruption of insurance. During renewal, they need to submit their 2024 tax returns and receive a Notice of Assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

To qualify for CDCP, all four of the following conditions must be met:

· Be a Canadian resident

· Not be able to obtain dental insurance through an employer, student organization, family member's employer benefit, pension plan, or family member's pension plan

· Have submitted tax returns

· Adjusted net family income is below 90,000 CAD

The CDCP includes the following oral health services:

· Preventive services, such as teeth cleaning, polishing, sealants, and fluoride treatments

· Diagnostic services, such as dental examinations and X-rays

· Restorative services, such as fillings

· Periodontal services, such as deep cleaning

· Oral surgery services, such as tooth extraction

Starting October 2024, the CDCP has expanded its coverage to include:

· Comprehensive specialist examination

· Crowns

· Repeated root canal therapy

· Partial dentures

· Major surgical procedures

· Moderate sedation, deep sedation, and general anesthesia

Please note that the CDCP will not directly pay for dental care expenses. Even if qualified, patients still need to cover the portion of the cost not covered by CDCP.

According to the federal government, the program is expected to help up to 9 million Canadians without dental insurance access necessary dental care.
