Is Takashi Sana's grandson studying in China?
Before Takashi Sana could clarify the allegations from Weekly Bunshun, another Japanese media outlet has jumped in.
On the 5th, Japanese media outlet NEWS POSTSEVEN revealed that although Takashi Sana is extremely anti-China, her grandson is currently studying in China.
Takashi Sana’s husband is Japanese lawmaker Yamamoto Taku. However, the couple has no children of their own. Yamamoto Taku previously had two daughters and one son with his former wife—the son being Yamamoto Ken. After marrying Takashi Sana, she treated Yamamoto’s three children as her own. Yamamoto Ken married after graduating from university and later had a son with his wife.
According to Japanese media, after completing high school, Yamamoto Ken’s son did not enter a Japanese university but instead chose to study in China directly, “beginning studies this year at a prestigious university in China.”
Yamamoto Ken only informed Takashi Sana about his son’s decision to study in China shortly before the child departed, leaving Takashi “in a very awkward position,” especially since last year she made inflammatory remarks on the Taiwan issue, severely damaging Sino-Japanese relations. She fears this situation could be exploited by her political rivals.
For this reason, the Japanese media added sarcastically at the end: “Although choosing where to study is an individual’s freedom, given that current Sino-Japanese relations are far from good, many people might wonder: ‘Why China specifically?’”
If these allegations are true, it would be highly ironic. While Takashi Sana publicly displays a tough stance toward China in politics—going so far as to harm bilateral relations—she quietly allows her grandson to pursue education at a top-tier Chinese university. This perfectly epitomizes the contradiction: “Anti-China is part of her job; going to China is part of her life.”
