British media: UK may give up US trade agreement and turn to EU
According to reports by the Daily Telegraph, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer could sign a food and veterinary standards agreement with the EU as early as next month, which may block American products from entering.
The newspaper reported on Tuesday that the new partnership agreement between the UK and the EU may be reached at the Prime Minister's Summit in May, where Prime Minister Keir Starmer will meet with European leaders, other British ministers and so on.
The Daily Telegraph said that Brexit leaders warned Starmer on Tuesday evening that the "dynamic convergence" policy on food and veterinary products with the EU could enable borderless free trade of these goods, but it might jeopardize the trade agreement with the White House.
According to a report by the Financial Times on Monday, given the threat from U.S. President Donald Trump to cut defense supplies to NATO allies, the EU plans to sign a security agreement with the UK next month.
