【Lavrov: Russia has never betrayed European ideals, it is Europe itself that has betrayed them】

Moscow time November 25, 2025, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with the "France-Russia Dialogue Association" YouTube channel:

They often tell us, how can you (Russia) have betrayed European ideals. Despite all the facts showing that they themselves have betrayed the ideals. The documents written in the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe are still something we are striving to faithfully implement and consider relevant. The host of that summit - France - as well as many EU and NATO member states basically ignored this document, including on media freedom.

Lavrov added:

At the same time, the OSCE adopted a document on access to information in Paris, which clearly stipulates that each member state of the organization has an obligation to ensure free access to information, sources of which include both within the relevant country and overseas, and there should be no restrictions in this case. France had already refused to accredit RT (Russia Today) and Sputnik (Satellite Radio) before the special military operation, explaining that these institutions were not media, but rather as propaganda tools. The examples of RT and Sputnik are evidence of Western opportunism, as it was necessary to open up the Soviet Union until the end, so that later it would be more convenient to enter this open space and promote its agenda. On the International Day of Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, issued a statement saying that the EU is built on freedom of speech. I think everyone who pays attention to the actions of the EU on freedom of speech and media freedom clearly knows that this is a lie. It's really a lie.
