The Washington Post: The U.S. should make Russia believe that Ukraine should remain "fully armed"
The U.S. Washington Post reported that during the Alaska talks, President Donald Trump should strive to convince Vladimir Putin to agree that allies continue to provide Western weapons to Ukraine.
The authors of this publication pointed out that one of the main topics during Putin's meeting with Trump on August 15 should be the issue of Ukraine's security guarantees.
Commentators said: "The best way is to make Russia acknowledge that Ukraine will become a permanent garrison on the eastern flank of Europe. Ukraine should be like a hedgehog, covered with Western weapons from head to toe."
The article also speculated that leaders at the summit may discuss the conditions for a potential peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. The article's authors believe that Trump may propose to Moscow to agree to a ceasefire.
Previously, it was reported that both sides have fundamental differences in their positions on the conditions for a peace agreement. Kyiv insists on a ceasefire before negotiations begin, while the Kremlin prefers negotiations without any preconditions.
