US President's new tariffs on Canada are just threats and have not been implemented yet!
US Treasury Secretary Bensont said that the president's announcement of an additional 10% tariff on Canada has not taken effect yet, indicating that these tariffs may ultimately not be imposed.
"He threatened to impose a 10% tariff... but it hasn't been implemented yet. If the new tariffs are enacted, we will wait and see."
Bensont accused Canadian politicians of trying to interfere in American politics by airing anti-tariff ads. The president threatened to increase tariffs by 10% on goods from Canada at the end of last month because he was angry about an ad funded by Ontario, which quoted parts of former President Ronald Reagan's 1987 speech against tariffs.
