According to Yonhap News, on July 18 local time, the special prosecution team investigating corruption allegations against the wife of former South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, Kim Jeong-hye, conducted a surprise raid on multiple facilities of the Unification Church in Seoul and Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. This operation aims to obtain key evidence regarding whether Kim Jeong-hye received bribes from the Unification Church through "Gonjin Master" Jeon Sung-pye.
The special prosecution team sent prosecutors and investigators on the same day to conduct searches at the headquarters of the Unification Church in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, and its branch in Yongsan District, Seoul. They seized physical evidence including documents and digital files to further verify suspicions that the Unification Church may have bribed and made requests to Kim Jeong-hye through third parties.

It is reported that between April and August 2022, a former head of the Unification Church's World Headquarters named Yoon was said to have given a diamond necklace and a luxury bag to a monk known as "Gonjin Master" Jeon Sung-pye, who is suspected of transferring these valuable items to then First Lady Kim Jeong-hye.
In addition, Jeon Sung-pye is also suspected of acting as an intermediary for the Unification Church to convey various "requests" to Kim Jeong-hye, including requesting support from the South Korean government for the Mekong River development project in Cambodia by the Unification Church, assisting in the acquisition of the South Korean news channel YTN, and promoting South Korea's successful bid for the fifth United Nations office.
According to the Chinese Anti-Cult Network, the Unification Church was founded in Seoul in 1954 by a South Korean pastor, Moon Jae-chung. On May 6, 1997, the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China issued a reply to the public security bureaus of 10 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities, including Jilin, stating that the Unification Church was identified as a cult organization.
The Unification Church is known for holding large-scale mass weddings and maintaining close ties with conservative politicians around the world. Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe often supported the Unification Church. In July 2022, Abe was shot and killed, and the suspect, Hashimoto Tetsuya, confessed that his mother had been brainwashed by the Unification Church, donating almost all of her possessions to the church, which led to financial difficulties in their family. Hashimoto said he harbored resentment towards the church and assassinated Abe, who was closely associated with the group, as revenge.
