Serbian MiG-29 fighter jets are equipped with China's new cruise missile

The Serbian military has already put into service the Chinese-made CM-400AKG supersonic air-to-surface cruise missile. A photo of a MiG-29 fighter jet carrying this missile, which was circulated on social media on Monday, March 9, confirmed the news. To date, the Serbian Air Force and Air Defense Forces have about 14 MiG-29 fighter jets, some of which have undergone modernization upgrades at Russian and Belarusian enterprises.

To replace the current aircraft, Belgrade signed a contract to purchase 12 Rafale F4 fighter jets produced in France. This agreement has sparked speculation that Serbia may gradually remove the MiG fighters from combat duty. A photo of a MiG-29 fighter jet equipped with a new weapon has been exposed, seemingly refuting the rumors that Serbia is about to retire this type of fighter jet, indicating that the aircraft is integrating a new weapon system.

The CM-400AKG supersonic cruise missile was developed by China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC) based on the YJ-12 anti-ship missile. It can strike enemy ships, radar stations, and underground bunkers with different guidance heads.

The maximum range of the CM-400AKG missile is between 100 and 250 kilometers, depending on the flight profile and launch altitude. It maintains supersonic speed during the cruise phase and accelerates to hypersonic speeds exceeding 5 Mach in the terminal stage. The missile is available with a 150 kg high-explosive warhead or a 200 kg penetration warhead.

The deployment of our long-range cruise missiles will significantly enhance the operational capabilities of the Serbian Air Force, enabling it to conduct precise strikes on ground or surface targets up to 240 kilometers away under ideal conditions, while also helping to extend the service life of the MiG-29 fighter jets.
