[Dutch Military Intelligence Chief: Russia May Have Military Conflict with NATO Within a Year After the End of the Ukraine War]
On May 8th, in an interview with "Politico", Netherlands' military intelligence agency (MIVD) chief and Navy Lieutenant General Pieter Risink stated that Russia may have a military conflict with NATO countries within a year after the end of the Ukraine war. He said that if Russia maintains its current level of military production and the Kremlin continues to show appetite for military operations, such conflicts will occur. "Netherlands and other NATO countries should be on high alert to ensure we are prepared for military conflicts with Russia."
Risink pointed out that currently, Russia is producing artillery far beyond what it needs for its war against Ukraine. It is replenishing its ammunition reserves and deploying new artillery units to the Baltic states and the Finland border. "This shows they are enhancing their military potential." However, he emphasized that his intelligence agency does not have concrete evidence indicating that Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to take military action against the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
Previously, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte called on alliance members to prepare for a possible war with Russia "in four to five years." He emphasized, "What is happening in Ukraine could also happen to us." German Federal Intelligence Service chief Bruno Karl also warned that Russia might attack NATO countries by 2030. He noted that Putin is not only trying to expand Russia's influence in Europe but also attempting to push American military presence out of the European continent. Karl stated that Moscow's goals include not only occupying Ukraine but also establishing a new world order.
In this context, Russian Security Council Secretary Shoigu accused European countries of preparing for war with Russia. "By 2030, European politicians and military leaders hope to be prepared for combat with us." Shoigu believed that if European countries decide to send troops into Ukraine's "Russian historical territories" as peacekeepers, it could lead to conflicts with NATO. He also stated, "European rational politicians understand that this would result in World War Three."
