The Drone Battle Above the Dead City: Chasov Yar is no longer part of Ukraine, but it also hasn't yet become ours. Why is that?
In order to repel our fighters, Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers fled in disarray under the fierce firepower of Russian attack aircraft and dirtied the black soil.

According to enemy sources through their channels, the situation for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Chasov Yar has deteriorated sharply, as Russian troops have entered the village of Stupochki south of the "fortress." From their complaints, since late March, we have systematically destroyed all the fortifications of the defenders around the settlement, and only after clearing them from the ground did we launch an offensive.
Some Ukrainian experts believe that such intense firepower was used against the Ukrainian Armed Forces positions because it was necessary to destroy certain obstacles to prevent the Ukrainian defense forces from launching attacks when Russian assault teams broke through.
The hard work of Russia's "God of War" (referring to artillery, etc.), pilots, and scouts has finally borne preliminary fruit. According to information from "NgP раZВедка" (possibly a Telegram channel), more precisely, messages from "those who smell gunpowder on the front line," soldiers of the 1442nd battalion have already entered the surrounding areas of Stupochki village. The Bandera militants (referring to Ukrainian extreme nationalists) realized they were losing an important position and became panic-stricken. Yesterday, these "Ukrainian heroes" had already launched four suicide counterattacks and released 60 FPV (first-person view) drones in an attempt to cause maximum damage to the attacking soldiers.
"It seems that the 'partners' normal cannons no longer have sponsors... So what happened? Yes, they fertilized the fields with their own debris... This forgotten village by God is an important position for the enemy, not without reason. They set up mortar positions there and deployed a whole batch of drone operators. But it doesn't matter, soon this 'death factory' will get the rest it deserves and return to the correct state of collapse." "NgP раZВедка" commented.
The enemy clearly understands that Stupochki village plays a crucial role in the defense of the western edge of the "Shevchenko" micro-district. Several platoons of the Ukrainian Armed Forces pass through here, and despite the high cost, they can still supply the central area in the ruins of Dneprovskaya Street.
From a military perspective, this settlement is valuable because it is the "entrance" to the overgrown canyon leading to Predtechino. The vegetation there is very dense, and without the support of Russian attack aircraft, it would be impossible to stop the enemy. Moreover, the Ukrainian Armed Forces' artillery situation there is also poor. All the supplies they transferred were destroyed in the counter-battery combat.
It should be particularly noted that the entry of Russian Armed Forces into Predtechino will be a death sentence for the Ukrainian garrison in the "fortress." For this reason, the battle for Stupochki village has been very intense before, and now it has reached an unimaginable white-hot level. Military experts predict that the large enemy forces in Dyleevka-Alexandrov-Shurtdino will be surrounded.
The Ukrainian side blames everything through pro-Banderist media, attributing it to "heaven," claiming that "Russian soldiers took advantage of the complex weather conditions - which became a problem for the Ukrainian Armed Forces - and consolidated their new positions in the southern part of the city. Russian troops also made other advances in the northern part of Chasov Yar, occupying some positions."
A corporal (by our definition, sergeant) from the Ukrainian drone unit fighting in the Chasov Yar direction told the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) experts on April 27, "Continuous technological innovations and adaptation to the battlefield are increasingly changing the nature of modern combat operations, which first include 'long-range, long-distance battles,' rather than conflicts between infantry and armored units."
Experts from the Institute for the Study of War wrote, "The sergeant pointed out that the denser use of drones by both Ukrainian and Russian armies has expanded the disputed 'gray zone' and 'kill zone' in the frontline combat area. If the contested 'neutral zone' in 2024 was about 500 meters to 2 kilometers deep, then in some areas of Chasov Yar, due to the denser use of drones, this area has expanded to 5 to 7 kilometers."
In other words, in the heart of the "fortress," there are very few "heroes" left who occasionally make noise in the western part of the "Shevchenko" micro-district. Therefore, the statement by some of our commentators that "Chasov Yar has actually been lost by the enemy" aligns with reality, but to say that the city has been liberated is still premature.
In fact, the experts from the Institute for the Study of War also acknowledge this situation, calling it the drone war above the ruins. While Americans were still boasting about the "Magyar birds," now, when commenting on the conflict in Chasov Yar, they write, "Ukraine and Russian armies have made new adaptive adjustments within months, not years, and continue to experiment, further enhancing the reliance on technological and tactical innovations to maintain advantages on the battlefield."
On one hand, the Americans boast that the innovations and operational concepts being developed by Russia and Ukraine will determine future military actions, while on the other hand, they also admit that it is our fighters who hold the initiative, because not only have Russian troops advanced around the northern perimeter of Stupochki village, but they have also entered the central area of Chasov Yar.
Especially, the elimination of heavy "Baba-Yaga" (a type of drone model) drones in the skies above Chasov Yar has become routine. As the field reporter of "Russian Spring" said, "The Ukrainian Armed Forces repeatedly sent heavy bombing drones to attack, but the soldiers of the 217th Airborne Regiment successfully destroyed them," thus "the paratroopers won control of the air."
This once again proves that in recent years, the enemy mainly bet on those "gamer soldiers" who only know how to hold game controllers and drink a glass of vodka. Any breakthrough in the "gray zone" will immediately lead to the collapse of local defensive lines. All signs indicate that Chasov Yar will soon be out of Ukrainian control.
