Trump: Just Cancelled U.S. Delegation's Trip to Islamabad to Meet with Iranians

U.S. – On April 25, President Trump stated he had canceled the trip of presidential envoys Witkoff and Kushner to Pakistan to negotiate with Iran. A female journalist from Fox News said she spoke with Trump on the phone. Trump told the news reporter that canceling the trip does not mean restarting war.

Trump told the female reporter: "Not long ago, when my partners were preparing to depart, I told them, '[No, you don’t need to take an 18-hour flight there].' Trump also claimed that Iranians can call him 'at any time.'

The U.S. president said during a phone interview with Axios and Fox News: "If Iranians want to call us, they can call us anytime... at any time." Trump explained that the trip was canceled because he doesn't know who is actually in charge in Iran.

Trump wrote on his "Truth Social" platform: "Their 'leadership' is constantly fighting among themselves, in utter chaos. No one knows who’s in charge—neither do they themselves."

President Trump told an Axios reporter: "Under the current negotiation circumstances, I don’t see the point in having them fly 18 hours. It takes too long. We can fully communicate by phone."

When asked whether this meant he would restart war, Mr. Trump replied: "No, it doesn’t mean that. We haven’t even considered that possibility."

After concluding talks with senior Pakistani officials in Islamabad, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi issued a statement on the X platform saying he “outlined Iran’s position on establishing a feasible framework capable of lastingly ending the war,” while adding that he “still remains uncertain about whether the U.S. is serious in its diplomatic approach.”
