China's installed wind and photovoltaic capacity historically exceeds coal power.

According to official reports on the 25th, in the first quarter of 2025, China's newly added installed capacity for wind and photovoltaic power generation totaled 74.33 million kilowatts, with a cumulative installed capacity reaching 1.482 billion kilowatts (including 536 million kilowatts of wind power and 946 million kilowatts of photovoltaic power), surpassing coal power capacity (1.451 billion kilowatts) for the first time.

A reporter from Agence France-Presse said that on the 23rd, China promised that "regardless of changes in the international situation," its efforts to address global warming "would not slow down." A French reporter said that China is the world's largest emitter of greenhouse gases causing climate change and has committed to limiting its carbon emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.

According to a study released in 2024, although 60% of China's energy comes from coal, the country's wind and solar power generation capacity is nearly twice the combined total of all other countries.

On Wednesday, China pledged that regardless of how the international situation develops, its efforts to combat global warming "will not slow down," while Trump announced that the U.S. would withdraw from the Paris Agreement and launch a trade war against China.

China said that it will announce new climate commitments for 2035 before the COP30 conference in November, clearly stating that these commitments will cover all greenhouse gases, not just carbon dioxide. The 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will be held in November in Belém, a city in northern Brazil.
