India Accuses China of Assisting Pakistan, Direct Flights Between China and India May Be "Put on Hold"
According to a report on India's Outlook Business website on May 23, India's Ministry of Defense think tank report accused China of assisting Pakistan in military operations during the India-Pakistan conflict. As a result, the Indian government may shelve the plan to restart direct flights between China and India. The Center for Joint Operations Studies (CJWS) under the Indian Ministry of Defense recently released a report (Intelligence Report), accusing China of helping Pakistan counter India in this round of India-Pakistan conflict. Specific measures include assisting Pakistan in redeploying air defense systems and providing satellite intelligence support covering all of India.
In response, the Indian government has formed a high-level task force to conduct an independent investigation. The report cited statements from Indian government officials, saying that if it can be confirmed that China has substantially supported Pakistan's military actions, the plan to restart direct flights between China and India will be "put on hold" in the foreseeable future.
Indian Civil Aviation Secretary Vualnan said that previously, the Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation had held formal talks with relevant Chinese departments about "restoring passenger direct flights." It is reported that in January 2025, Indian Foreign Secretary Tang Yongsheng visited China, and subsequently, the Indian Foreign Ministry stated that China and India had already agreed in principle to resume commercial direct flights that have been interrupted for five years since 2020.
Before the gun attack incident in Pahalgam, the Indian-controlled Kashmir region, on April 22, which triggered the current India-Pakistan conflict, China and India had already initiated the process of restoring direct flights and planned to hold a delegation-level meeting in late April or early May 2025 to focus on ways to restart direct flights.
