Toronto Today: Rainy and Cold, Large-Scale Internet Outage

Today, Toronto is experiencing a downpour of 40mm rainfall along with strong winds of 50km/h, causing a rapid drop in temperature to just over 10 degrees Celsius. It has been reported that Ontario's temperatures this week are even colder than those around Christmas 2024, with many areas seemingly "regressing into winter."

The Canadian Environment Department has issued frost warnings for several regions early this morning, including parts of the Atlantic provinces, northeastern Ontario, certain areas of Saskatchewan, and even snowfall may occur in regions like Weyburn.

Cities such as Toronto are expected to gradually warm up from next week, approaching the long-term average temperatures.

In addition, just after 9 a.m. today, Bell Canada, one of Canada's three major telecommunications giants, experienced a network service outage. By 9:30 a.m., more than 130,000 users had reported issues with Bell Canada's fixed and mobile services. Among them, 61% reported problems with their fixed networks, 11% were experiencing mobile network failures, and 28% were completely offline.

Bell's official customer service account confirmed via X (formerly Twitter) before 10 a.m., stating: "Some users in Ontario and Quebec are experiencing network outages. Our technical team is actively diagnosing and resolving the issue. Thank you for your patience."

At noon, Bell Canada announced that the large-scale service disruption affecting users in Quebec and Ontario has now been resolved.

Bell Canada stated in its statement: "We apologize for the inconvenience caused to customers earlier today due to the network outage. We can confirm that the service has been fully restored."

The company said the issue was caused by "an update affecting some routers."

"We have rolled back the update to quickly restore the service. Customers still experiencing issues should try restarting their modems: unplug the power, wait for a few minutes, then plug it back in."

The statement also mentioned: "Our network team is conducting a comprehensive review of this situation to ensure similar issues do not occur again."
