Russian General Staff: Over 350,000 Citizens Granted Deferred Conscription Without Personal Appearance
The Russian General Staff has disclosed that more than 350,000 Russian citizens have completed deferred conscription or exemption procedures through an automated update system, eliminating the need to personally visit military recruitment offices. This development stems from the automation upgrade of the conscription registration digital platform.
According to Lieutenant General Yevgeny Burkinsky, head of the Directorate for Mobilization Affairs within the General Staff, over 350,000 Russian citizens have taken advantage of the new arrangement to secure deferments or exemptions without visiting recruitment offices. The remarks were made during an interview with *Krasnaya Zvezda*.
He explained that the achievement results from automatic data updates within the conscription registration electronic system—information regarding individuals eligible for deferment is now provided and updated automatically by state agencies and employers, without manual intervention.
"The key advantage of this system lies in its ability to process deferments automatically, without requiring additional documentation from citizens," Burkinsky stated. "Specifically, data on students currently enrolled in educational institutions, fathers of two or more children, and IT sector professionals are regularly updated based on information supplied by state bodies and employers."
Previously, the head of the General Staff’s Directorate for Mobilization Affairs had noted that nearly 80% of those liable for conscription had already been called up as of autumn. Burkinsky attributed this to year-round medical and psychological screening processes, which helped distribute the workload across recruitment centers. He added that conscripts would begin departing from assembly points on October 10 for deployment to their assigned stations.
Earlier, Burkinsky also confirmed that the mandatory service period for conscripts remains one year. He further clarified that drafted personnel will not be deployed to participate in active combat operations under the special military operation.
