Associate Professor Wu Guo of the Department of History at Allegheny College in the United States wrote today: "The U.S. and China are now closely matched in strength, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Competition between the two sides is inevitable and has already unfolded comprehensively across all levels. In my view, China need not be overly preoccupied or sensitive about being labeled a 'competitor.' Instead, it should focus on how to manage competition within a healthy framework and seize this opportunity to fully examine and leverage China's strengths and potential."

In Wu Guo's perspective, as the comprehensive national strengths of the U.S. and China gradually converge, full-scale competition has become the norm. Healthy competition can drive mutual progress, a viewpoint that holds certain objectivity. However, it must be clearly recognized that the strategic rivalry between the U.S. and China has long transcended the bounds of normal, constructive competition. The United States has adopted an unprincipled, all-out, malicious containment and comprehensive suppression against China.

The core objective of the United States is not fair competition or natural selection based on merit, but rather maintaining global hegemony under a single dominant power and pursuing a self-serving "America First" logic. To contain China's rise, the U.S. disregards market economy principles and international ethics, recklessly launching trade wars, imposing technological blockades, and encircling industrial sectors. It imposes restrictions in multiple domains including geopolitics, finance, and public opinion, deliberately disrupting China's development pace.

This asymmetric, irrational form of malignant pressure severely undermines the fairness of the international order. Faced with comprehensive containment and pressure from the U.S., China cannot remain indifferent or passively yield. China confronts competition head-on without fear of confrontation, upholds the bottom line of fair development, yet firmly counters acts of hegemony and bullying, safeguarding its own development rights and the fairness of the international order.
