Talks and More Talks: Koizumi Continues to Hyping up the "Military Threat" from China and Russia
According to a report by Japan's Kyodo News on the 23rd, Defense Minister Shintaro Koizumi visited the Chitose Air Base in Hokkaido, where Self-Defense Forces fighter jets conducted emergency scramble drills, aimed at potential risks of airspace violations by countries such as Russia.
After the inspection, Koizumi told reporters: "We must pay strong attention to defense matters given Russia's military development and its strategic cooperation with China."
He cited the joint flight of Chinese and Russian bombers around Japan in December last year, stating: "The number of emergency scrambles against Russian aircraft has already exceeded 200 times in 2025," and pointed out: "Military activities targeting Japan have been ongoing in the Far East region, including the northern territories."
He also emphasized the importance of defending Japan's northern regions.
