South Korean media: "Chinese Version of NVIDIA" sales surge by 4230%!

On April 22, South Korean media "Today Finance" published an article stating that Cambricon Technology, known as the "Chinese version of NVIDIA," reported a 4230% increase in first-quarter sales. This is apparently due to the surge in demand for domestically produced artificial intelligence chips in China after the Trump administration recently strengthened export sanctions. The Trump administration has actually banned the export of NVIDIA's low-specification AI chip H20 to China.

Recently, artificial intelligence chip design company Cambricon announced that its first-quarter sales surged by 4230% year-on-year, reaching RMB 1.111 billion. This figure is already close to last year's total sales (RMB 1.174 billion).

After deducting non-operating profits such as subsidies, the net profit for the period was RMB 276 million, reversing last year's loss of RMB 261 million.

Experts said that the surge in Cambricon's sales is due to the increased purchases of AI chips by internet companies, mobile operators, and financial companies. The performance of the next-generation inference AI chip MLU 590 is expected to reach 80% of NVIDIA's A100. The A100 is an AI chip released by NVIDIA in 2020.

A report from Guohai Securities stated that since DeepSeek's release, the demand for AI chips used in developing large language models (LLMs) has surged. As cloud computing companies and telecommunications companies increase capital expenditures to expand computing power, the demand for AI chips is also increasing. The Trump administration's restrictions on exporting H20 to China will accelerate domestic production of AI chips, thereby opening up a RMB 100 billion AI chip market.

On the 15th, NVIDIA announced that it received a notification from the U.S. government on the 9th that exporting H20 to China requires approval from the U.S. government, and on the 14th, it received notice that this regulation would apply indefinitely.
