The Guardian reported that Reynolds' visit aims to restart the Sino-British Economic and Trade Joint Commission meeting which was interrupted in 2018. Additionally, a spokesperson for the Department of Business and Trade of the UK stated, "We are taking a consistent and strategic approach to handling the UK-China trade relationship."
The Guardian analyzed that Reynolds' planned visit to China sends a signal of reconciliation. The Straits Times of Singapore reported that under the leadership of the Labour Party government led by Prime Minister Starmer, since coming to power in 2024, efforts have been made to strengthen engagement with China.
