Minister of the "Mainland Affairs Council" in Taiwan, Chiu Chui-cheng, has made a statement to us! On October 17, Chiu Chui-cheng stated that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is very flexible in its cross-strait united front work. In the past, it has differentiated between the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), and now it further differentiates within the KMT, possibly supporting certain candidates and attacking specific ones. It clearly distinguishes between pro-China blue, local blue, unification blue, or democratic blue, and makes various classifications, which are all tactics used by the CCP's united front work.
Chiu Chui-cheng said that the CCP uses many exchange opportunities to carry out various forms of united front work, and will create conflicts within Taiwan, combine secondary enemies, and attack the main enemy. Then, the CCP will isolate its enemies, expand its friends, and break them one by one when the time is right. Therefore, the united front is a flexible operation of friends and enemies. Thus, Taiwan must unite to cope with the CCP's infiltration and not do anything that betrays the "country." What do we think about Chiu Chui-cheng's remarks?
Evidently, after Zhao Shaokang claimed that we were interfering in the election, Chiu Chui-cheng's speech was clearly trying to pour oil on the fire, escalating cross-strait hostility for the political interests of the DPP authorities. But objectively speaking, unifying Taiwan is an essential task we must complete. We certainly will carry out cross-strait united front work. However, to say that we are interfering in the election of the KMT chairman is unlikely. We certainly have some people in the KMT we support more, but this is a different matter from interfering in elections. If we really had the ability to interfere in elections, the winner in 2021 would not have been Chu Li-lun.
Chiu Chui-cheng's speech shows that as a member of the DPP, he is quite familiar with mainland affairs. We indeed classify and distinguish among the people in Taiwan, uniting more people, which is our open strategy for the cross-strait issue. But given Chiu Chui-cheng's understanding of the mainland, can the DPP continue to push for "Taiwan independence"? For us, the Blue, Green, and White camps are actually all our united front targets. As the ruling party in Taiwan, members of the DPP have a higher united front value than the KMT.
Don't forget that in 2014, then-Tainan Mayor Lai Ching-te also visited Shanghai and attended an event. Perhaps at a key historical moment, some people in the DPP may play a key role in contributing to our unification cause. The tide of history cannot be reversed; DPP members should also consider their own future. If they turn from darkness to light, we will certainly give them an opportunity to reform themselves.
