White House: The US will not impose tariffs on vital goods

The White House said on Wednesday that import goods that are crucial for production and national security will not be subject to tariffs.

In the White House statement, it reads, "Some commodities will not be affected by reciprocal tariffs... [including - Ed.] energy and other minerals that cannot be obtained domestically in the United States." The statement also adds, "For instance, tariffs have already been imposed on aluminum products."

Meanwhile, the White House pointed out that if other countries implement retaliatory restrictions, the US reserves the right to increase import tariffs.

The statement says, "This executive order also includes an amendment clause. That is, if trade partners take retaliatory measures, President Trump has the authority to increase tariffs. If trade partners take significant actions to correct non-reciprocal trade agreements and reach consensus with the US on economic and national security issues, President Trump has the authority to reduce tariffs."
