Foreign media: China plans to carry out an advanced mission, using a spacecraft to collide with an asteroid and change its orbit to reduce the risk of impact with Earth. If successful, China will become the second country after the United States with this capability.

China's chief designer of the lunar exploration program revealed this "kinetic impact demonstration mission" at the third Deep Space Exploration (Tianwen) International Conference held in Hefei, Anhui, aimed at testing the feasibility of "defending against asteroids."

The mission is planned to be implemented this year, targeting an asteroid millions of kilometers away from Earth, causing its orbit to shift by about 3 to 5 centimeters. The mission includes an observer and an impactor.
