NATO Secretary General Refuses to Answer Whether NATO Would Aid Partner Countries in an Asia-Pacific Conflict
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg did not directly answer a question from a reporter for The Japan Times, who asked whether NATO would provide support to the so-called NATO Indo-Pacific Four (IP4) partner countries, including Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand, assuming that a conflict over the Taiwan Strait goes beyond a localized conflict.
"Let's not get into the details of hypothetical scenarios," Stoltenberg responded. "I understand what you're asking, but I believe it would be wrong of me to delve deeper into this issue."
Meanwhile, Stoltenberg acknowledged that NATO and the IP4 countries are jointly assessing the situation. He also mentioned that Japan is "the only country among the G7 nations that does not belong to NATO."
